ESSEX TURN, PART 2

ESSEX TO WHITEFISH FREIGHT SWITCHING ACTIVITY FOR MSTS MARIAS PASS (MP 3.0 version available!)

The second and concluding part of the Essex Turn's crew day, this activity takes you from Essex to Whitefish, with setouts, pickups and AI traffic along the way. You have two GP38-2's and a short consist. You'll start at mid-morning and if you and the dispatcher are living right, you'll have running meets with two trains in the first five minutes of the activity.

First you'll meet the eastbound Empire Builder approaching its station stop in Essex, and if you have paid attention to the dispatcher, you won't even have to stop.

--------------Next up is a manifest freight that the dispatcher wants to keep moving as it gets ready to tackle the stiff mountain grades. At least five more trains will get in your way before the activity ends.

Teamwork with the dispatcher and the Whitefish yardmaster and following their directions over your train radio will be key to a successful run home with the Essex Turn!

Your first step after unzipping is to unpack the .apk file by double-clicking or dragging it onto the TSUnpack icon in the Train Sim Utils folder (making sure you've corrected the install bug in the application path line--search the Train Sim forums for more info). There will be no file overwrites, unless you have downloaded and unpacked previous activities from this site. If you have, be assured that there are no changes in consists or paths from any other activities, so you can say yes to overwrites without concern about effects on your system, your MSTS installation, or any other activities. Even if you say no to overwrites, the full activity should be ready to run. Also be aware that this activity was designed for the default USA2 route that installed with your MSTS, and it may be unpredictable and even unplayable on modified routes.

Read the activity description on the Drive a Train screen, check with the dispatcher (your briefing window) before you throttle up, watch the speed limits, and rely on your dynamics as much as possible. (You may need the loco physics update available at Train-sim.com or RailServe.com to make sure your dynamic brakes are working realistically.) A full run should take about two and a half hours.

Download, unpack and climb aboard for the concluding part two of the Essex Turn!
